Analysis, judgment, and elimination of six common faults in the initial installation of electric butterfly valves

Electric butterfly valve is the main control butterfly valve in the production process automation system, and is an important execution unit of on-site instruments. If the electric butterfly valve malfunctions during operation, maintenance personnel must be able to quickly analyze and judge the cause of the malfunction, and correctly eliminate it to ensure that production is not affected. The following are six common faults of electric butterfly valves that we have summarized based on experience, as well as their cause analysis and troubleshooting methods, for your reference in maintenance work.


One of the fault symptoms: the motor cannot start.

Possible cause analysis: 1. Power cord disconnected; 2. Control circuit failure; 3. The stroke or torque control mechanism is malfunctioning.

Corresponding troubleshooting method: 1. Check the power cord; 2. Eliminate circuit faults; 3. Eliminate faults in the stroke or torque control mechanism.


Fault phenomenon 2: The rotation direction of the output shaft does not comply with regulations.

Possible cause analysis: The phase sequence of the power supply is reversed.

Corresponding troubleshooting method: Swap any two power cables.


Fault phenomenon three: Motor overheating.

Possible cause analysis: 1. Continuous working time is too long; 2. One phase line disconnected.

Corresponding troubleshooting method: 1. Stop running and let the motor cool down; 2. Check the power cord.


Fault phenomenon four: The motor stops running.

Possible cause analysis: 1. The butterfly valve is faulty; 2. The electric device is overloaded, and the torque control mechanism is activated.

Corresponding troubleshooting method: 1. Check the butterfly valve; 2. Increase the setting torque.


Symptom 5: The motor does not stop running or the light does not turn on after the switch is in place.

Possible cause analysis: 1. There is a malfunction in the stroke or torque control mechanism; 2. Improper adjustment of the travel control mechanism.

Corresponding elimination method: 1. Check the stroke or torque control mechanism; 2. Readjust the travel control mechanism.


Symptom 6: No valve position signal in the remote area.

Possible cause analysis: 1. The set screw of the potentiometer gear is loose; 2. Remote transmission potentiometer malfunction.

Corresponding troubleshooting method: 1. Tighten the set screw of the potentiometer gear; 2. Check and replace the potentiometer.
